Recover a Bitcoin Core wallet.dat password
Do you have an old Bitcoin Core wallet.dat and can't remember the password? We are a Spain-based company specialised in recovering access to wallets like this. The assessment is free and we only charge if we succeed.

Many people bought or mined bitcoin years ago with Bitcoin Core (formerly Bitcoin-Qt), kept their wallet.dat file and, over time, forgot the password that protects it. If that's your situation, you're not alone and, in many cases, there is a solution.
At Satoshi Spain we are a Spain-based company, headquartered in Barcelona, specialised in recovering access to crypto wallets. The Bitcoin Core wallet.dat is one of the cases we work on most.
What the wallet.dat file is and why it gets locked
The wallet.dat is the file where Bitcoin Core stores the private keys to your bitcoin. When you set a password, those keys are encrypted: without the correct password, the software cannot access the funds.
Unlike a bank or an exchange, Bitcoin Core has no "forgot my password" button and no support desk that can reset it. Nobody keeps a copy of your password. Recovering access therefore means finding the correct password from what you remember.
When it can be recovered (and when it can't)
We want to be honest, because this field is full of false promises:
- It can usually be recovered when you remember part of the password, its approximate length, the words or numbers you tended to use, or the way you built it. The more you remember, the better the odds.
- It is much harder when you remember nothing at all. In that case we'll tell you clearly at the assessment stage rather than wasting your time and money.
We never guarantee a 100% recovery. What we do guarantee is an honest assessment and that, if we don't recover access, you pay nothing.
How we do it
- Free assessment. You tell us about your case and what you remember of the password. We then tell you whether it's feasible and what would be needed.
- Contract and NDA. Before anything sensitive is shared, we sign a service agreement and a non-disclosure agreement under Spanish law. We only work with the legitimate owner of the wallet.
- Recovery. Starting from what you remember, we generate and test candidates using on-demand GPU computing power and our own password-pattern research. We keep you updated throughout.
- Handover. Once we recover access, we help you regain control of your funds securely. The final step can even be done in person in Barcelona.
We only charge a success fee of 35% of the recovered amount, and only if we succeed. There is no upfront payment.
What we need from you
For the initial assessment we only need you to tell us:
- That it's a Bitcoin Core / Bitcoin-Qt wallet with a wallet.dat file.
- Everything you remember about the password: approximate length, words or numbers you often used, language, capitals, symbols, how you tended to create your passwords back then.
- How long you've had the wallet and, if you know, which Bitcoin Core version you created it with.
Important: never send us your wallet.dat file or your password by email. If your case is viable, we first sign the contract and the NDA, and then explain how to share the data securely.
Every day counts. Let’s look at your wallet.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need my wallet.dat file to assess the case?
No. For the initial assessment we only need you to tell us about the case and what you remember of the password. We don't ask for the file or the password until we've signed the contract and the NDA, and we always explain first how to do it securely.
How much does it cost?
The assessment is free and there is no upfront payment. We only charge a success fee of 35% of the recovered funds, and only if we recover access. If we don't, you pay nothing.
How long does it take?
It depends on what you remember of the password and the complexity of the case. It can range from a few days to several weeks. We give you a realistic estimate at the assessment.
What if I don't remember anything about the password?
If you remember nothing at all, the odds drop a lot and we'll tell you honestly. The more information you give us about what it was like or how you used to create your passwords, the better the chances of recovering it.
Is it safe? What happens to my bitcoin?
We work only with the legitimate owner of the wallet, under a contract and NDA. We never ask you to transfer your funds to us, and the final step can be done in person in Barcelona for your peace of mind.
